SS 316 pipe is the go-to choice when ordinary stainless steel is not enough. The addition of 2–3% molybdenum gives stainless steel 316 pipe far better resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chlorides, sea water, acids and aggressive process chemicals. Why Choose Stainless Steel 316 Pipe?
Grade 316 outperforms 304 in sulphuric, phosphoric and acetic acid service, brine and coastal atmospheres, bleaching solutions in paper mills and in salty food products. It also has better creep strength at elevated temperatures. That is why SS 316 pipes are specified for pharma WFI and purified-water loops, chemical reactors, desalination plants, offshore utilities and jetty piping.

Why is SS 316 pipe more expensive than SS 304?
SS 316 contains more nickel (10–14%) and 2–3% molybdenum, both costly alloying elements. They give much better corrosion resistance, especially against chlorides.
Is SS 316 pipe suitable for sea water?
SS 316 pipe performs well in coastal atmospheres and intermittent sea-water contact. For continuous sea-water immersion at higher temperatures, super austenitic or duplex grades may be preferred.
